Spring Garden doily 1

Finished this a couple of days ago but just managed to scan it. It is another Polish doily so not much information I am able to give because I don't read Polish but it is diagrammed.

Variegated colour is Spring Garden in Lizbeth, the green is Flora. Both in size 20.
Diameter is around 14 cm.

Right from the shuttle an originally oval doily where I turned one of the ends into a round one and made my own center too. Pattern from a Polish magazine, designer unknown to me.
Diameter 18 cm, a combination of Lizbeth and Aida both in size 20.

Purple tatting

Picture below shows some purple tatting - a doily and a pair of candle holders done in Flora size 20. The doily is designed by Inga Madsen and I think the candle holders are her design too - at least both patterns comes from my Guild magazine.

Sorry it's been a long time since my last posting which have been caused by bad health and too little time - and I have not tatted a lot either.

I don't have anything witty or smart to say either so for the time being this will just turn into some sort of tatting journal. See you next time - whenever that might be.

Belated Happy New Year

I am a bit late but still want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. The new year have not started that well in many aspects but let's hope there will be some healthy, happy times with new challenges for all tatters.
For various reasons I myself have not really tatted since I did my Christmas tatting. But in October I posted a picture of a doily that I had been working on. I have a habit lots of time only doing parts of doilies. But this one I liked doing so I decided to do all of it almost right away.
I still have a few ends to hide - there were soooo many, lol - and a few other things but I do not know when I will get that done. So here is the picture of the entire doily, diameter is 30 cm in Lizbeth size 20. And it is my favourite "Springtime" colour. The pattern I have had for years but for some reason did not get it done untill now.

Merry Christmas tatting

It is again time for Christmas tatting for most of us. Luckily I was able to do mine in November so there were 25-30 pieces to give to workmates and friends who "deserved" a little something, ;-)
I tried doing Anne B's heart but it did not work as supposed to so I did a small variation and I think it works just fine. Thank you Anne for the free pattern.

I hope all who follows my blog and writes here will have a Merry Christmas filled with lots of warmth and fullfilled wishes. For the second year in a row - which is a record really - it will be a white Christmas here in my country. It is sooo freezing cold and lots of snow so far and more to come tonight so I am glad I do not have to travel for Christmas. I only have to go to work tomorrow, roflol.

I am still around - at least a little bit - despite the silence for more than a month.
Below is a doily I did some weeks ago. Thread is a combination of Aida and a Lizbeth, both in size 20. Not the best colours I have chosen though, the original was done in a green and a blue and looks better than this. But that can happen when you choose colours, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but you really don't know till the work is done.

It is designed by Inga Madsen whom I visited for some days in September.
She is such a great designer and a great person too. She shared some other stuff which will appear here as time permits. She even gave me a copy of her book "Fairytales in Tatting".

A search have ended - I think

A very long time ago - at least a year - I stumbled over a picture of a doily on the web and I fell in love with that design. Unfortunately there was no pattern and I myself and others asked around but noone seemed to know where the pattern was from. So I was not able to purchase the pattern but I did have the picture and because the design was a bit familiar to me I have tried to make my own. I think I have managed to make a good doily out of it.
Thread is Lizbeth size 40 and diameter is around 19 cm. Two of the rounds on this reminds me so much of the bookmarks I have done several times - maybe that is why it was not so hard to reconstruct the patern, lol.
If someone knows where the original pattern can be found for this doily I would still love to know so I would also be able to credit the designer. But for now my search have ended - at least for this design ;-D

Two tatters touring, part 3

When we went to Zealand we of course also had to be tourists in the capital where we spent an entire day and among other things took a boatride to be able to see as much as possible.

The first picture is a statue of the warrior-bishop Absalon who more than 800 years ago founded the city. The next picture is the pretty area called Nyhavn with all the colourfull houses earlier owned by sailors. Third picture is the spire of the church belonging to the navy.
Next row is the stock exchange from 1640, the marble bridge to the parliament which is the 3rd castle there and this previous was royal and to the far right the new opera donated by a very wealthy business man.
Third row is the town hall, the royal palace where the Queen lives in winter and to the far right the Rosenborg Casle where the crown juwels are guarded by the royal guardsmen.
Bottom row is the old royal library, part of the naval quarters at the old fortress and finally the entrance to the brewery called Carlsberg.
When you visit Copenhagen you can not leave out a visit to the Tivoli. The pictures here show the main entrance and the Pantomime Theatre. The rest of the pictures are just from around the Tivoli by day or when all the lights has been turned on.
It really is an amusement park and I believe it is one of the eldest in the world (if not the oldest) and it is situated right in the center of town, actually almost next to the Town Hall.
It is a must-see for all Danes, at least one visit, and also very famous worldwide.
After a long day in Copenhagen we jumped on the train and were back at my place almost 4 hours later. I was very tired I have to admit, lol. But I hope Liyarra got an impression of the place, actually we had taken so many pictures of all the places we saw that it was hard to choose which ones to show. I hope you do not think there are too many here.
I didn't get much tatting done during Liyarra's visit but afterwards I have been able to tat quite a bit. Above is a small doily I have done in Lizbeth threads, the pattern is from AnneB's website.

Right from the shuttle

Pattern is from a Danish magazine some years back, the thread is Lizbeth size 20 both the white and the variegated called Springtime.

A few days after the trip to Skagen Liyarra and I went east to Zeeland where we were staying for a few days. One of the places we visited were the town of Roskilde where we visited both the Cathedral and the Viking Ships.
First picture shows some houses from the area close to the cathedral. It is an old town founded more than 1000 years ago and it's got a lot of old houses from within the last 3-400 years.
There are a couple of older churches in Roskilde but the big cathedral dominates the center of the town. It can be seen on 3 of the pictures to the left.
The building started around 1170 AD and it is the only Danish cathedral build in the genuine English style really. It really is both big and beautiful, and it is a very significant landmark in our national history.
The pictures to the right shows some of the inside of the church. Since 1536 all Danish monarchs have been buried in this church and all in all 2/3 of all the known kings in this country are buried here in seperate chapels with paintings and ornaments by artists.
The last picture shows a little brown squirrel which almost ran me over while was sitting on a bench and I was so lucky to be able to catch it with my camera, lol.
In Roskilde is also the museum with the 5 viking ships that was discovered in the fiord 50 years ago. In the picture above you see first a reconstruction of one of the ships that a couple of years ago sailed all the way to Dublin and back the next summer and some work in progress.
The museum is also the national center for reconstructions of ships and therefore have a sort of a harbour and a ship yard where they make the vessels with the tools from that time (the middle pictures). At the bottom pictures of the original 5 ships in the exhibition hall.
And finally a picture of some tatting. It is the the bookmark pattern that I never seem to get tired of doing. These 2 are done in some new Lizbeths size 40 and size 20.

I want to share a little about the things Liyarra and I went to see while she was here. First I want to tell about our trip to Skagen which is located at the top of the peninsula called Jutland and 2-3 hours away from where I live.
We had hired a car and Liyarra was courageous enough to be our driver. The picture below show 4 things we saw there.
From around 1880 and some 25 years on the small town of Skagen was a place where some famous Danish painters went for the summer and they have done some incredible expensive paintings from the area that today is a part of our heritage. The first picture is taken from outside the museum which we had to visit so Liyarra could see some of the paintings she had become familiar with.
The second picture shows the northern tip of Jutland where two seas meet - the Kattegat and the Skagerak - and it is a custom to go there and stand with one feet in each sea. So we of course had to do that too and we were so lucky that the weather was so sunny and a bit warm, so it was a nice experience.

The third picture shows a typical house from Skagen. In the center of the old town almost all the small houses are painted in a specific yellow colour and have red roofs. The streets are so narrow that 2 cars can hardly drive by each other.
Skagen is definitely a fishing town. There used to be more than 200 fishingboats in this small town but today there's 35 left. The boats of our time are of course bigger and there are also a lot of boats from foreign countries loading their cargo of fish in that town. The picture with the red houses shows where the fish is brought on auction and some have been turned into restaurants today.
Skagen is a very lovely little town to visit and the light up there is so special because it is surrounded by water on 3 sides. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood. And I can assure you that the fish taste very good.

Tatting time after a lovely visit

Liyarra have gone home after almost 3 weeks at my place. It is so weird here now without her, :-( Thank you very much for coming and I hope you'll come back some other time if you're able to.

I think we had a lovely time together and we certainly were busy running around to see some of the sights here, so for me personally there was not a lot time for tatting and unfortunately not enough for learning all the stuff I had hoped to, so I will have to manage tatting with the knowledge that I have.

This first week on my own I have manged to do some stuff and 2 of the items are shown below. The square is from a Workbasket magazine and the other one is a Stawasz design - the purple one on Liyarra's blog actually. The white one is DMC size 20 and the coloured one is a combination of a variegated Lizbeth and a white DMC, both size 40.

There's a couple of more things to show, both tatting and some lovely gifts and purchases. There's also some things to tell and show about from the 3 weeks my guest was here, so I hope I will be able to blog here a little more than I have done for the past many months. As time permits I will share some of the memories and the things at this place. So stay tuned and I will try and be back very soon.

Where tatting can take you

It's been 4 months since I have written here and some might think I have given up my blog. But I haven't, it is just that I have not tatted much for months due to health issues and some other stuff. But there's something I want to say and it has to be today or it will be "old news".
I discovered tatting online 8 years ago and it has had an impact on my tatting skills and mostly been a huge source of inspiration which I needed so badly. What I did not know then was all the friends I would get worldwide because we all make small knots with fine threads.
Right now Liyarra is sitting in a plane 10-11 km above the surface of the earth somewhere between Singapore and London and in about 19 hours she will arrive here where I live. Lots of things have happened but after all it was possible to make the trip.
I know it is a hard and very long way coming here from Australia but I hope she will think it is worth every minute it takes because it is my plan that we are going to have 19 wonderful days together. We will be tourists here, we will tat, we are going to a tat-day to meet a lot of Danish tatters and most of all we will spend time together as very close friends. I am so looking forward to her arrival, I have had a billion butterflies in my stomach these last 2-3 days because it is getting so close now.
I do not hope you who might read this think it's been boring or a weird thing to write about. I am sure there will be tatting to write about and show these next 3 weeks. But you see tatting can take us anywhere and in more than one way.
The picture is just a small motif I have done, nothing special though. There's also a doily to post here but Liyarra have to see it first because there's some symbolism in the way I have done it.
Now it is back to handling all those butterflies and some final preparations to do. See you.

WIP is finished now

Now I have been able to finish the WIP I mentioned in the earlier message.

The thread is a combination of the Sage Rose and a DMC size 30. The diameter is around 18.5 cm.
The pattern is one AnneB have reconstructed and which she kindly shared with me after I had seen her doily at the meeting in the capital last month.
Anne, thank you for letting me do this one, I have really enjoyed it a lot and I think my outcome is OK even though I perhaps should have comebined the colours differently. The thread was also a joy to work with, a little rough perhaps but not a problem once you're used to it.

To use up the Sage Rose thread I did a Frauberger snowflake. I was afraid there wouldn't be enough of it for the entire snowflake so I also combined that with the white DMC 30. It is not excactly identical to Frauberger's pattern, I did a mistake but did it on all 4 sides so I think it now can be called a variation, lol. And her designs are such a joy to do.
I still have a small bit of thread left from the Sage Rose skien and I do think it would have been sufficient for the last round of the snowflake anyhow.

An 'old' one and a WIP

It has been a very productive tatting time these last couple of weeks - at least for me.

I had started a doily before the meeting in the capital that I brought with me on the trip and was able to finish it when I returned back home.
It is wellknown pattern for me, it is the Lund doily that I have done several times in different variations.
This time I have used one of the HDT's from Tatskool and combined it with some white DMC. It is a lovely thread to tat with, size 20.
I am also testing the Sage Rose that I mentioned in the previous post and also combined that with a white DMC in size 30.

The Bre-Aly thread felt very strong - very important for a tight tatter like me - and was very nice to tat with that is for sure.
I just had to get used to it not being as smooth as those I have used before. It was as if it had very small bumps but nothing major that affected the closing of the rings. It is just a matter of what I am used to I think.

It is still a work in progress because there's the last round to do, and I hope I will be able to finish it within a week or so.

News from a lucky tatter

I have promised to tell about my meeting with AnneB and Sulu in the capital last Saturday. We had a lovely time in my opinion, it was easy to chat even though we have never met in real life before. After visiting a yarnshop with no threads for tatting I think we spent 3 hours in a coffeeshop talking about and looking at tatting that we had brought with us. Later after dinner Anne and I were even able to go to her hotel room and tat together for almost an hour before I was exhausted from a long day.

Thanks Anne and Sulu for taking time for a meeting and for some great hours together. I simply forgot to take pictures, sorry.

Anne had even brought some new threads for us all the way from Norway. Aren't the colours very spring-like. I look forward to trying them out as soon as possible.

My very good friend from downunder have also gifted me with some awesome new threads to test.

To the left are Yarntopias Treasures and the purple is from KLMATTOX and they arrived just in time for Easter. Next ones are Sage Rose and Dream from Bre-Aly and finally to the right is Tourmaline, and these were awaiting me when I returned home Sunday evening. Aren't they just awesome too?
Thanks Liyarra for being so generous, I really look forward to test these too. I am so amazed by all those colourful HDT threads that are turning up these days.
Thank you very much my friends for some very happy moments these last couple of weeks. Now there really are no excuses for getting the doily in progress done quickly so I can play with my new threads.
Oh I feel so rich now and I am definitely a lucky tatter.

A week with lots of tatting

This week is really one with a lot of tatting on my part. First of all there was the first Tat and Chat with Liyarra the other day. It was so nice to be able to do it after a very long break where we had not been able to find the right moment to do one. Recently I also bought myself some new HDT's to tat with - not sure what I will use them for yet though.
I love the colours and thanks Tatskool for the lovely threads and the extra free sample.
Finally there's a small tatting get together I am attending. Saturday morning I am taking the train to the capital to meet with AnneB from Norway and with Sulu who lives there. I really look forward to meeting those 2 girls, it will most likely be a lot of fun. We will be talking and looking at tatting and perhaps have a little time to sit and tat together.
I will return home on Sunday and I will most likely come back to this subject after the weekend.
So this is definitely a good week filled with tatting on some days off from work. And itsn't that what matters for us?

Eggs for Easter

I have started to tat a little again and hope I will do a bit in the weeks to come, but I wont overdo it.
Did a couple of eggs for Easter, which seems appropriate right now. I got inspired when I saw on Sulu's blog what she had done. I could not make an advanced flower so this is my solution.They are done in Aida size 20.
To inspire myself I have also bought some lovely HDT's from Tatskool in Ireland. I hope to be able to tat something with them in the near future.
It feels very nice to do some tatting again.

Still around but knitting

I am still around and have not forgotten my blog, no way, even though it's been very quiet here.
I have not really tatted for more than 3 months but I hope to try again around Easter, hopefully. But I have not been lazy, I have been able to knit some socks (again!!! - yes I know). I have a picture of the ones for myself but have done others too that are going to be a gift and because the reciever reads this blog I can not show them untill next winter. ;-)

Tatting is still very much on my mind and I miss it terribly. That is why I have been shopping some HDT from Ireland, an encouragement for starting again. And I am also working on a small tatting meeting the weekend after Easter - more to come later.
I hope you like my socks - they have been very useful this winter which have been so cold and with lots of snow for almost the last 3 months. But finally spring seems to be on it's way. Yahoo.
I will be back soon.

The Danish Guild

There's been some questions about the Danish Tatting Guild (Dansk Orkisforening) online these last couple of days. Their website is mostly in Danish and that is why I am writing this in English - I am just a happy member of the Guild but not a member of the board or anything and I just want to help out with the information.
The Guild was founded more than 10 years ago and they publish a magazine 3 times a year for members only with stories almost only written in Danish and a number of patterns. Usually the patterns are diagrammed in very good drawings where no knowledge of Danish is required. The designs are both done by members but also by some tatters who have published their work in books and leaflets that are available outside Denmark too. I can not share my patterns because of copyrights.
They do not sell single patterns (as far as I know) because it is meant for members. For international members membership is 200,00 Danish kroner (DKK) for one year.

Glaedelig orkis jul

It is Danish and means "Merry Tatting Christmas" and that is what I want to wish those visiting here. I know most of you will probably celebrate on the 25th but here it all starts with dinner on the 24th.
Below is this years Christmas tatting done by me, I think I did 10-12 of them for mostly workmates (done before my arm got crazy but not the reason for the problem though).

In Danish they are called "Nisser" (pixies, elves etc. in English) and they are part of old Scandinavian folklore. There are good ones and bad ones, ones that belongs on farms and in houses in general and even on ships (all over really). They are small creatures and not always that visible, sometimes all you see is their red hats. They mostly live in the attic it is said and they can get several centuries old. Rice porridge with a spoonfull of butter and cinnamon sugar is what they like.
So from a snowwhite DK I wish you'll all have a wonderful Christmas with lots of tatting presents.

First French Doily

Sorry for the long break where I have not posted anything here. But I have a problem with my neck and shoulder in the left side so I have not been sitting much at the computer and not been tatting for 4 weeks at all.
But more than a month ago I was able to finish the first doily from that French book I was given, this time I didn't use any variegated thread and not even a white, roflol.
I am not really sure about that French book, all the designs look lovely that is for sure, but I am a bit worried about how well the designs work when you tat them.

This round doily is the first one that have worked for me, I did start a very nice oval one from the book and used some lovely Lizbeth thread but I think that doily have been the worst one I have done when it comes to lying flat. It bowled like noone else I have done, maybe you've seen my cry for help at Intatters some time back, and mine is never going to lie flat at all, not even if I iron it a lot.
This one looks OK in the picture but in real life it really would like to bowl a little bit if I hadn't used the iron. The thread is Aida size 20 and the diameter is around 15 centimeters.
Hopefully I will be able to tat a little bit soon but it might have to wait till the new year. But I do have something for my Christmas posting here, I will post it in a week or so. See you then.

Lizbeth tatting

Like so many others I have also bought some Lizbeth thread size 20 and I really like this thread and all the colours - especially the variegateds which you know I am crazy about.
Here is one of the first doilies - just called "Tatted Doily" - I have done with a Lizbeth thread.

I really look forward to the day where Roseground gets size 40, that day I will go shopping there again, lol.

It's been a while

Sorry it's been a while since I wrote here the last time. Sometimes life gets in the way of blogging and even tatting. And work has taken a lot of my time and energy this last month. But I am back now.

The square doily above is from an older Italian magazine - one of those Lavoro magazines. I think it is from number 2.
The thread is the gift shown in my previous post, the Milford thread. And size 20.
It looks very nice when you've tatted something with it. But I warn you - if you're going to try it someday - it tangles and twists like nothing I have ever tried before. I was about to give it up more than once but I wanted to finish it. And I did, yes I made it, lol. But it really got my temper out in the open, roflol.
Pity because it looks so nice and feels like a very nice thread.

A Spoiled Tatter

I hope my readers do not mind a little bragging. But I have been so spoiled at my birthday recently and I want to share the tatting treats. Let's see what the mailman brought me.

First a lovely Namaste bag from Australia, now isn't that a pretty one. Tatters are usually not only crazy about books, shuttles and threads. We are also users of various bags for our portable craft. A big thank you to Maureen for gifting me with this.
Another mailman brought me yet another gift and that also happens to come from Australia. Look carefully and see all those lovely colourful rings, the hair clips, the clover shuttle and those things for winding threads on - and these are made of plastic and not cardboard which are the only ones I can get here. Oh what a treat this is, I hardly have words to explain how pleased I am. A big "tusind tak" to Jenni, my mate downunder.
But hey there's more, a lovely ball of variegated thread. Yahoo, and I do cherish those threads. It is a Milford thread, which is a new one to me, and what a treat it will be to try that out.
And the thread have been put into something. Can you guess what it is? It is a container that once held some of the stuff that you use for making a Pavlova (I hope it is the right name) which I think is the national dessert of Australia. Isn't it awesome and just perfect for transporting my tatting too. I look forward to using it, so another big thank you very much to Jenni.
Do you know what wandering threads are? I have to admit that untill recently I didn't, but honestly it is the right name
for the thread to the right. Yes you are right if you recognize it as some of Yarnplayer's incredible beautiful HDT's. But because of horrible customs and fees etc. it didn't go directly from the US to me but went via Australia on the way, so it has travelled more than half the way around the globe, from the north to the south and then back north, roflol. That is why I think it is a wandering thread - or maybe a globetrotter thread. It was a treat I gave myself sometime ago and it only turned into a success because of Yarnplayers kindness. And one skien stayed with Liyarra as a thank you for the help.
Don't you agree that I am a spoiled tatter - I feel so loved not just because of the gifts but also because of the efforts those 3 fellow tatters have put into making my day. Thank you.

Flowery cards

The monster seems to have gone on a long break. Not really tatting a lot right now. First of all I am trying to keep up with Sharon's design course on Yahoo and secondly because I don't have an idea what to do next. Thirdly becuase I am awaiting new threads coming from the UK, some of those awesome variegated Lizbeth threads that everyone seems to talk about these days and love using. Soon it will be my turn to try them out. :-)Some friends are having birthdays soon and in stead of just buying a card I wanted to make some myself. So I found some flowers in the Stawasz book and for the flower pot I used the bottom of a Christmas tree that I turned upside down, roflol. It was fun to do them but also a bit fiddly not twisting them and having to work with glue etc. But that is what friends are for I think.
I think the white and yellow ones reminds me of daisies, lol.

The mother of one of my friends have a big birthday in September, I hope she will enjoy the bookmark at the bottom that I am putting into one of these flowery cards.

If anyone is interested in the progress this is the monster doily so far. It has worked very good untill now.
But my challenge partner is behind me and think she might to have to start over again, so I am taking a break with this till I know how she will be doing.
But I wont sit around with empty hands, so we will see what I will come up with next.
I have also joined Sharon's design course and might have to spend some time on that.

I have been challenged

Liyarra have challenged me to do another long distance tatting. She knows that doilies larger than something like 25 cm is not my favourite size to do. I have done several doilies where I have not tatted all the rounds - not that there's anything wrong with that mostly. But now she wants me to tat a huge doily - and ALL of it. I reckon this will be a monster doily so that is what I call it - the monster.

In the picture here I have reached 25 cm in diameter. Unfortunately there's another round left with I think it is 24 motifs - yes it is true twentyfour motifs on the outer round. Gee I wonder if I will survive that, roflol.

The design is from the Jan Stawasz book, the thread is Flora size 20 variegated yellow, solid white and a variegated very light green. I had to choose something I had plenty of so I do not run out of thread when I am on the last round. If that happened I would give it up.

If you do not hear from me for the next many moons you'll know why - I will be engulfed in my monster (or perhaps by my monster, lol).

Same and yet so different

Last month when I wrote here about the big doily I had finished I said I would show a picture of the version that Liyarra in Australia have tatted and that we started together during one of our online sessions. I have been given permission to show her doily here next to mine so here they are.

Notice how different they are. It is the same design and I think it might be the same size thread too but yet they are completely different. It is so amazing what difference the choise of colour have etc.

Of course I like mine (:-D ) but I also like the one with the metallic center and the green and red very much.

Jenni, thank you for letting me show it here, you've done a great job with it even though that red round were almost driving you crazy at some point of time - that almost happened for me too, lol.

Thanks for the fun of doing it as one of our tat-sessions.

Cheering up

I needed some cheering up so I did another doily while I await starting the huge monster-doily. I have used white Coats size 40 and Rainbow thread from Tatskool in the same size. The diameter is 15 cm.

I think this design was my Aunt's favourite, at least I saw her tat it over and over for years, and I have more than one copy of the pattern. I have always had a hard time getting it to lie flat but this time it seems to work fine. Actually I think it is one of the very best I have done from this pattern.
Hhhmmm, I wonder why.

One of the mysteries of tatting is, that our tension and everything else changes almost all the time which means, that things that didn't work all of a sudden becomes a success. And the opposite is also possible of course. The pattern I only know from an old but still copyrighted Danish book.

Wrong combination of colours and a new try almost

I have recieved many nice comments about my tatting and have been told that the colours I have chosen for my work looked very good. I do know that I like to combine various solids and variegateds - often combined with a solid white.
But I want to show you below, that I am not always lucky when I choose colours. Another Stawasz design and these two colours do not look good together. I did it a couple of weeks ago and I don't like them.
The thread is Cebelia size 30, the colours are a green combined with a greyish-green. I will do the pattern credit and do it again soon and choose some nicer colours.

As you can see to the right just above I have done a larger variation now and I like this one better. I had decided ahead that variegateds were going to play an important role together with solid white. I almost succeeded.

Thread is Altin Basak and diameter is 25 cm. It has taken me something like almost 2 weeks to do it because some of the rounds are very slow to do = a lot of stitches to do. I suppose it is good training before doing the huge monster doily, lol.

The big doily is done and it took me around 10-12 nights of tatting to do it. Diameter is 32 cm, the thread is Flora size 20 in different colours combined with the white. Pattern is from my Guild magazine. Here it is.

I do not do a lot of those big ones and while tatting this I recalled why I do not fancy doing them. When you reach something like 20 cm they get big and it is hard to sit and tat on them because either the doily or a thread is easily mingled and it twists so much. At least that is what happens to me.
My Aussie mate is doing the same design in different colours and I hope when she is done that I may be allowed to post a picture of it next to mine. I know the choise of colours means so much for the final result so it would be great to see them side by side.

My first pair of earrings

I know I said I was working on something bigger (and it is true, lol) yet the stuff I am showing off here is very small. I have done my first pair of earrings ever, lol.
I wanted to do a pair from that Russian site ( http://free-tatting.com/ ) but it got so fiddly and therefore I failed. Either because the beads were too large or the thread was too thin - or maybe both.
Anyhow it turned out to be a mess so I ended up doing these - I guess you could call them my design because I just did from my imagination. But they are so simple that someone must have done them earlier on and I apologize for not being able to give credit to someone then.
They are for a girl at work who goes on vacation next week and who has fallen in love with tatted jewellry after I showed her some of the stuff on the blogs I visit.When she returns I will have left that workplace for good unfortunately so it will be a goodbye-gift tomorrow.
I have never done earrings before partly because I do not use that stuff myself. But the circumstances taken into consideration I think they will do - don't you?
Tonight it is back to the big item I am working on, I can not wait to see it being done, lol.

The third Russian doily

It is very nice to discover a new site that shares patterns and especially those for doilies. I have done the third doily from one of those sites who have free patterns, it happens to be Russian and is called Free Tatting Patterns. (the center part below is a variegated pale pink and not a solid white which the pic perhaps shows)
When I was done tatting it - and it was a good one to do - I discovered that there are both a diamond and a square here. I wonder what it would look like if you put a number of them together. Hhhmmm.
I wish I was that good that I would use up my old threads before I buy some new ones. That is not so, unfortunately. If I had to wait to buy some new ones till I have used all my Flora, the Altin Basak, the Aida, the DMC, the Coats etc. then I would never be able to try the new Lisbeth threads. :-D
But I will get some when I have made up my mind what colours to choose. I think it is the time where I need a treat.
I now want to go and tat on the new thing I have started. It is something bigger and will take some time to do, and maybe I will take smaller breaks and do some other stuff too. And unfortunately there is some work to take care of too ;-) , roflol.

Two more doilies

I have said earlier, that I am into tatting doilies right now, roflol. So here are two more. Both are done in Altin Basak threads, I am trying to use some of the threads that I want to get rid of so I can get some new ones - those Lizbeth threads have some awesome variegated ones and I am tempted in deed now that I can get some of them in the UK.

Designs are from that Russian site that was one of the subjects discussed last time I went to Online Tatting Classes. (free-tatting.com)
The yellow one was the nicest one to do, the green square was very fiddly and the sides do not look straight and turns it into a weird square.
Think I just started the next doily last night, lol. And the onion bookmark from the latest Frauberger tat-session is also ready for showing soon. I have a feeling that a new session is in the oven, yahoo.

Guild doily

I think it is the first time I have posted twice here on the same day, lol.
I am in a doily mood right now, and even though I have been sick an entire week with a very nasty cold, I was able to tat a bit now and then - it is possible to tat in bed if you elevate the head part of the bed, roflol.
The pattern for this comes from my Guild magazine and was designed by one of the members. I am so fortunate to have that national Guild sending out magazines 3 times a year, it is the only domestic tatting contacts I have got and I always look forward to recieving the magazine in the mail.
The next projet have already been started - it is a doily from that Russian site that was discussed in Online Classes this week. A day or two more and it will be done too.

Bookmark exchange

I also got 2 postcards from New Mexico, it looks so different from where I am.

I said I would be back soon ;-D - so this is the finished doily.
Threads are variegated blues in Flora size 20 and the white is Aida size 20. Not the best combination, it is like there's a slight difference in the size between the 2 brands.
Not the best colour combinations I have chosen either, but I hope the friend I am sending it to will like it anyhow. Her name is Lisbeth but she do not have any connection at all with the tatting thread by that name, lol.
Took me around 3 nights to do it, so it was a quick one and not a hard one to do really.
Hhhhmmmm, now the big problem is what to do next, lol.

Long time no see

I am still a member of blogland even though it's been a while since my last posting. Somehow life got in the way, getting rid of a cold and work etc. have taken a lot of my time. But I have been reading blogs though.

But I have been tatting a little bit now and then and last night I started this.

It is another doily that I found the pattern for yesterday when I was looking through my tatting folder on the computer and one that I have not done so far. While I tat this white round I am trying to figure out if the last round should be done with the blue in the center or I should choose another variegated blue thread.
I have done a little tatting while I have been away like the Frauberger sessions we have had at Messenger but nothing is ready for showing yet.

And I also entered an exchange at Intatters and did a bookmark that I mailed to my partner the other day, but untill it has reached it's destination I wont show it online.

Time for some eggs

There is a good reason for me being quiet here at my blog lately. You see I have been tatting, lol. Some of the stuff I can post about here now because I have been tatting eggs for Easter.

The celtic eggs above are for my workmates and they will get them this week. The pattern is from my Guild magazine, unfortunately it is not my own design.

Now to figure out what to do next.

First doily after a break

Yahoo, my first doily tatted after the break, must be around 6 months since the last one. It is another Frauberger design, from the reproduction of the awesome old book. It was not hard to tat at all and it is one I have had on my mind for some time to do.My guess is that it has taken me at least 10 hours but not more than 14 hours to tat it.Most of it was done during 2 online tatting sessions me and my Aussie mate have had on Messenger and that is why I have an idea how long it has taken me to do it. I think we must be tatting addicts, who else would get up at 7 in the morning to tat with someone on the opposite side of the globe, ROFLOL. But they are a lot of fun and I would get out of bed no matter what time of day to have one of them.

I think I am back at tatting again, yahoo. My Aussie tatting mate and I had another online tatting session at MSN today working on a Frauberger design and my hand didn't mind the tatting at all - not yet at least. It was a great time and a good way to spend a day at home. Thank you very much, mate.
I do not have any picture yet because we didn't get to finish the piece so here is another picture.
It is a lot of butterflies that I have done over a long time with the leftover threads on shuttles that need to be emptied for other purposes. My Guild are collecting these so they have something to give away when they go to demonstrations and exhibitions.
They also accept owls, fish and angels but I have mostly done butterflies over the years. Soon these will go into an envelope and be mailed to guild so they fly away and maybe inspire one or two to learn to tat - and if that happens it will be lovely.
Now that I have started tatting again I hope nothing will stop me again in the near future so I hope I can return to blogging on regular basis too. As time permits after work of course. I have also ordered some more HDT and will keep an eye on the postman next week, maybe I am lucky and he will have some love threads in his bag for me.

We just had a little snow but now it has stopped. I wish spring was around the corner but I don't think so, unfortunately. As I have told I have been knitting some socks this winter and I have been asked if I would show them somehow, so here is a picture.I got carried away because of these new yarns where the colour changes and makes some sort of patterns. On 3 of them I combined with a solid colour simply because I think the patterns would look strange on the heal of the sock - that is just the way I am, lol. And it is probably also because that is the way my mother used to do it too.
The purple-pink one is partially a yarn with bamboo and the first time I have uesd that, it was very nice to knit with.
In a little while I want to try get back to do some tatting I just got my Guild magazine today and there are a couple of smaller things in it that I might give a try and see if it works at last. So I hope in the near future to have some tatting again here at my blog.

Winter Crafting III

One of my first postings more than a year ago was about a knitted sweater that I was doing but I had run out of threads and could not get anymore in the shop. A week ago I took it out again and I now managed to do a small neck with the little yarn I had left and I was able to use the mitten thread for sewing on the arms. So here it is, yahoo.
The sweater do fullfill all my expectations. It is so soft and warm and I feel good wearing it. I am so happy I finally got it done. It's been a while since I last knitted myself a sweater - more than 10 years I think - and I had almost forgotten how nice it is. This really was a pleasure to do. I think tatting have been taking over for years. I hope that there will perhaps be room for both in the future.
The worst thing about finishing a work in progress is that you have to find out what to do next. And I really do not have a lot of unfinished work left so I have absolutely no idea what to do this time.

Winter Crafting II

In my last posting I wrote that I had been lazy. It might not be the absolute truth - at least not for the Christmas holidays. The scar on the hand didn't like my usual gloves and a friend of mine suggested that I knitted some mittens!!! Hhhmmm, I wondered if that was an option.........

I started out knitting for only 15 minutes a day the first days and gradually I was able to increase the amount of time. So yes I was able to knit some mittens as it can be seen in the picture to the right.

Of course they are done on needles size 4 but they turned out fine and can keep my hands warm in the cold mornings when I am waiting for the bus.

I am not sure why knitting seems to be easier than tatting for the time being -actually I have not touched a shuttle for 2 weeks now, maybe I should try it out and see if has changed.

But I still have one more knitted item to show in my next message. Stay tuned - I think that is how you say it in English - LOL.

Winter Crafting I

Sorry I have been so quiet lately, actually not having posted here this year yet. It is caused by a mix of being lazy and tired because I have had more workhours than before the holidays. And being winter it calls for some special crafting. For me it means I have been doing a bit of knitting during the Christmas holidays and the first weeks of January - I will write about that in a later posting.

Might be a little late but I did also tat a snowflake in the month of December. It is the one in the picture and the design belongs to Nancy at Be-Stitched.com who has some free patterns. I also think Jeff over at Bridge City Tatting have done it - sorry I have absolutely no idea how to make links here on the blog so you'll have to go and find them yourself.

The thread is Altin Basak variegated light blue and white - I suppose it is appropriate for snowflakes.

I think it looks pretty good - :-) - and I can say that it is a very nice design to tat.

Yes today the postman brought me a big white-blue envelope from the US. Do you want to see what was inside it ??? OK you just have to see what was there, lol:
First some lovely postcards and a magnet which should give you a clue who it is from because it is from Southern California and I only know one person there.

Doesn't it look like a very nice place to be? Blue water, palm trees, sunshine - I would not mind exchange that for the cold winter here right now. I am sorry my picture is not that good but I hope you are able to see how nice it looks anyhow.
Next picture includes some awesome tatting and a funny reindeer card, I think it's all homemade, have a look please:
It must be Rudolph in the middle and their little bells do ring, lol. They are so cute and I love them enormously. Best of all though are the 4 snowflakes at the top. I wish you could see how lovely they are, such nice stitches and they have had a good stiffener so I can have them hanging for years. Please believe me when I tell you they are awesome and I am very lucky to be picked to have these. I will treasure them like I have treasured all the tatting I have been given from fellow tatters through my online tatting years.
And finally there's another cute magnet in the shape of a sandal - must be appropriate with all those beaches they seem to have there.
I am definitely a lucky girl today and I want to thank you the sender of all these goodies. Have you guessed who it is ?

Tonight is the big Christmas evening here in DK where everyone celebrates the birth of Christ with huge dinners, walking round the tree singing and finally opening presents. So to all my blogging friends a "Glædelig jul" and thank you for your friendship.

Some years I have tatted a Christmas item to put in the cards I am sending. This year I have only been able to tat 10 of the above stockings which I have given to my workmates and a few others. I have done this years ago and I knew it didn't require mork work than I could cope with. It is not my design.

My first HDT tatting

Below is my first tatting done with hand dyed threads. It is Pamela's rainbow thread size 20 and the white is a DMC size 30. Don't know why the same thread size didn't work for both of them but it didn't.
I did not want to loose any tiny bit of such a lovely thread and that is why I tatted my usual bookmark - this will be for myself, lol. The rainbow thread worked just fine, a lovely colour and a lovely thread.

The bookmark is not my design and therefore I can not share it, I found it on a Japanese website that is no longer online, as far as I know. I believe the pattern or something very close to it can also be found in one of the Dover books, sorry I can not remember which one and I do not have time to look for it just now. If someone is eager enough I think one of my pictures and the info that there are either 2, 4 or 8 ds between picots should be enough to do it.

A start

This favourite bookmark was the one I decided to do as the first tatting after the break. It is done now and isn't perfect but it is a start. Hopefully I will be able to do a couple of things for Christmas now even though I can only tat a couple of rings and chains at a time.

It is not easy for me to tat yet, I have a problem with bending my wrist and also 1-2 fingers. It's taken a lot longer than expected this time and it is not only a question of age but not sure what else it is caused by. It is a pain when you can not use your hand properly after 8 weeks and it also hurts. It is so annoying but I do hope to be able to tat something bigger again one day.

A Day With a Lot of Tatting

Yahooooo, what a great day it has been so far today, almost a tatting day, lol. At least a tatting day in the meaning that my new Sewmate shuttles without a point have arrived from the US. The colours are so pretty and the Sewmate shuttle I already have is very nice even though the point cuts my fingers a little bit.

I really welcomed the postie today because besides the shuttles he also brought me my Guild magazine. I have mentioned that before so I am going to show the front of the latest issue here.

It's been almost as good as doing some tatting, roflol. I am sure I will sit and drool over the magazine most of this day, oh I think I have already seen a doily in it that is a must-do, there's a cute grey Christmas mouse, a Celtic Christmas tree and some other stuff. And there's also some interesting reading about some tatdays and about the Horstmar 2008 Tat-day that even some ladies from Japan were able to attend.

Hooray for online shopping. I have been buying some more Highly Dangerous Threads while waiting to get able to do some tatting again. This time I have bought threads from Pamela over in Ireland and they arrived today.

I just had to have some of the rainbow threads that so many seems to love and some apple blossom and a few solids ones. I got 2 skiens in size 20 and the rest are size 40. I can not wait to get back to tatting and working with these lovely colours. Maybe there will be something in that new Russian book that I can tat with some of these colours.

Withdrawl

I am in such a withdrawl (abstinenser in Danish, lol), I so desperately want to tat something, no matter what it is just anything, roflol. Stitches got out Monday but it is not yet good enough to try and grab a shuttle and make rings and chains. Oh, it is soooo hard to be so patient, usually I am able to be patient but not this time, I think I have run out of patience by now, lol. Anyone know where I can buy some more of that???
It is a comfort to know that there are so many out there thinking of me, so a big thank you to all those who have posted a comment here on my blog, at least I am able to write her. But anything fiddly like zippers and buttons are hard to handle, and don't even think of shoelaces.

I can not write here without posting a picture. Sometime back I showed my inherited bone shuttles, the picture above is my wooden shuttles and they all have a story. The "ICT 2005" shuttle was one we had made when we celebrated the first year of online chatting (International Chat Tatters). The "Neil Keats" shuttle is the one I won at the Whittlesea Show in 2006 for my variegated and white square doily (early posting on the blog).
The 2 shuttles to the right are from my visit to Australia in 2006, the Kangaroo one I bought at the NSW Guild meeting in Sydney that Ginny and I attended and the one in the lower right corner is one that Jenni and Maureen had made to celebrate the 4 of us meeting each other in Brisbane.
I do try to tat with all of them once in a while and they are such nice memories to have from some very special occasions.
Now I will go back to lurkdom, and even if I can not tat yet I do vist blogs and drool over the stuff you do and dream of what I am going to do in a week or two - perhaps.

Oh so slowly

Sometimes we think time is running so quickly but that is not my problem at the moment because I think it is going so SLOWLY. I have to admit that I miss my tatting tremendously but I at least have to wait 2 weeks or more, :-(
If you look to the right here you'll see why it is completely out of question to even think of trying to tat. With this huge bandage it will take some time to get it working again I am afraid.

A friend of mine have just returned home from Kazakstan and Uzbekistan this week and he went to 7 stores over there before he found this book for me.
I have been told it is called "Macrame and Frivolite" and there are a couple of designs I will try one day, if I am able to figure out the patterns because they are not drawn in the usual manner and I can not read Russian at all. But anyhow I will try and maybe my friend will have to help me even though he does not know anything about tatting.

But it was kind of him to bring it home to me and maybe I can send a booklist with him next time.

Not enough time unfortunately

I had been hoping to be able to finish the little doily below tonight but there was not enough time unfortunately. :-(
The pattern is from Anne's Norwegian site and called Tiri's brik.
I am not sure when I will be able to finish it but it might take some weeks. So my blog will probably also be silent till I am back.

Tomorrow I am having surgery on my left hand because a Carpal Tunnel Syndrome have been bothering me for almost a year. I had the same surgery in my right hand about 20 years ago so I am not really scared and I know it will help so I am able to tat, knit and whatever I want to do again in some weeks.
Not sure how long till I am able to tat again, I did not tat when my right hand was done, lol. But till I will be back make sure to do some lovely tatting that I can drool over. Happy tatting folks.

Tatting up a storm.

I am busy tatting up a storm before I have to take a break for some weeks where I will not be able to tat. I am working on something I hope to finish on Sunday but here is the latest finished tatting.

It is another motif from the Spitzen-Kreationen book, a corner of a tablecloth from that book. I thought it was an intersting shape and it worked well in my opinion. Right now I tat mostly in white, I can not decide what colours to use.

A Tuesday Tat Night

Tuesday last week we had another of those great tat sessions online. We worked on another Frauberger design - the one on the front cover actually - and I have just been able to finish it this weekend. So here comes another fiddly design from that awesome book:

I used Aida size 20 and I do not think that was the right choise because more and more I get the feeling that when there are some large rings or chains then this thread does not look good, I think this thread at least reguires quite a few picots on those large rings and chains. The one above looks clumsy or at least not very delicate and lacy. But for lots of other stuff it is such a nice thread to tat with.

Spitzen is all over

Some late birthday prezzies from myself, it really has been a tatting birthday this year. I got 2 more books and some bangles that is supposed to be my Christmas tatting this year if I am able to make them. Depending on how quickly my left hand will recover I suppose.

Looks like it is the season for Spitzen or snowflakes because they seem to be all over right now. I was inspired by a very good tatting friend to get these new books above.
I think I will like them and will enjoy very much doing some of the designs when I can find the time to do it. And I have to figure out those odd looking diagrams too. But 2 yummy books - if books can be yummy, lol.

What a treat

I have had a lovely surprise for my birthday, what an awesome treat I got. It's a reproduction of 2 old German tatting books with some lovely designs.
And like Tattingchic have done with her new books I will give you a small impression of some of the stuff that is in the book.

First a triangle but I think it can be turned into something else if you prefer that.

The next one is a square and as you can see there seems to be many designs with those onion rings in the book. But that is ok because I can manage those, at least I used to.

Here is another square, and what a beauty it is. More the traditional type of tatting that we know so well from the older books I believe, but those are in general the ones I am best at too - just rings and chains it seems.
There are aslo a coupe of butterflies, lots of edgings, some snowflakes and almost round doilies.
Below is one I did from the book.

Jenni and I have had another online tatting session and did this one, I was asked to choose a pattern and unfortunately I seem to have chosen perhaps the most fiddly design of them all. This have not been blocked yet but it is looking all right I think. Even though I got those front and back sides mixed up while I was tatting, lol.
The notation of the patterns is a bit strange at least till you find out how it works, and then of course it is written in German so it takes a little time to figure out the patterns. It was such a huge help that we were two that were able to assist each other. But I think it is worth it and I am sure this book will take up a lot of my time in the weeks and months to come.

I am trying to get back to tatting and my blog, but I have hardly tatted for 4 weeks so there has not been anything to post here, it was just like I had run out of ideas and I didn't have the urge to tat. I hope that will change in the coming days because yesterday my Aussie mate and I had another online tatting session, lovely it is possible to do it in that way when we can not meet in person. I will see if I can finish the motif we worked on tonight.

The other day I did the two bangles above. I am desperately trying to find a pattern that will suit those bangles - these are not perfect but will do for now. If anyone knows of a pattern in size 20-30 thread that will fit these bangles please let me know where to look.

From UFO to FO

I guess we all have UFO's, but now I have got one less. This is 4 squares by Fujisge that I have put together for something larger. It is a very nice square motif to tat and it was started a year or more ago and I have just finished it.

Thread is an old ball of DMC size 40. Now I think there's 2 UFO's left, but not sure they will be done right now. A life without UFO's sounds strange.

A birthday doily

I have done another doily. I have a friend who's having a birthday late next week. I think this will be part of her present.

It is a part of a larger Polish doily that I did in Cebelia size 30 - the coloured threads are some she brought me from Germany a few years back so I think it is appropriate to pay her back this way.
I do not have much else to say. It's been very hot for some days and almost impossible to be thinking, I think I have started to feel braindead.

Pastime tatting

Just a small picture of my latest tatting, another nice, small doily by Lene Bjoern that was in my last Guild magazine. Only a small picture because I don't have much to say, it is again the time for pastime tatting I guess.

But a pastime is good to have if you look out my window it is raining buckets right now and 10 minutes ago it was a beautiful sunshine. I suppose it is a typical summer up here and not one of those hot and dry ones. I am glad I made it home from the market before it started.

Now the big question is, what will I tat next. Hhhmmm.

A special treat

Now I also have some HDT that I bought from Yarnplayer (thank you) so let me show them here. They are called Purple Punch and Fern, and I think they are soooo pretty.

Now the big problem is what to tat with them but firstly how do I turn them into balls of thread. Something for me to think over for a while because I have never had any of these before.

And a special treat for Lady Shuttlemaker over in Korea because she wanted to see the yellow flower I bought at the market some days back.

Picture was taken when it needed some water and that is why it looks a bit poorly here, but I have taken care of that since then. Sorry, I have fogotten the name for this, I guess it was not important when I bought it.

Now that is 2 special treats within the same week, lol.

Tatting for a little boy

Melissa mentioned those tatted fish would be great for something for a little boy and she is absolutely right, so I have better show here what I had in mind.

It is for a little baby boy to be born in October of this year. I have been allowed to contribute with some tatting for a quilt that is being made for him.

But those little 3 fish were not enough, so here is a picture of all the stuff I tatted for his quilt. Because it is for a boy it had to be done in blue, even though I have never seen a blue foal in the real world, lol.

The foal is from Inga Madsen's animal book, the heart can be found online, the lace is from those bookmarks I love to do and there's also one piece that I came up with.

Little fishes

What they are going to be used for will be a secret for a little while, but they are kind of cute.

Pattern is from my Guild magazine, the idea is to use that leftover thread on your shuttles for these little fishes that can be given away at demo'es etc.

Tatting Heirlooms

Having mentioned that I have my Aunt’s tatting stuff I was encouraged to show them, so I am going to show my tatting heirlooms here. There are 5 of her shuttles and 4 of them are made of bone, there’s a stork scissors with genuine gold and then 2 hankies that she tatted. The one to the left is her own and I have no idea how old it is. The one to the right I think was made for me and in that case it is from 1970. She learned to tat when she was around 10 years or a little older so it must have been around 1927-1930 and she tatted on and off her entire life even though she could only see with one eye. I recall having seen her doing a few hankies and then doilies. Maybe that is why I like doing doilies because I sort of grew up with them and I got my first 2 doilies when I was a teenager.
She died in 1996 and I inherited all her tatting stash because I was the only one in the family who tatted. She was not able to tat the last year or so because she was getting senile and didn’t master the flip anymore. But she did experience that I had learned to tat a couple of years earlier and I think she was a bit proud that I wanted to learn her craft. She did try teaching me but it didn’t work so I went to classes one winter to learn it.
She also had 3-4 books and some patterns from older magazines, I even inherited quite a few balls of mainly white DMC thread in different sizes. The shuttles and books etc. are now good heirlooms for me and one of her Danish tatting books is the most precious book I have. It would have been nice if she could know how much joy tatting brings me and how important it is in my life, for me her stuff today is a very nice memory of her.

A pink doily - oh dear

When telling my tatting mate about this I have referred to it as my "pink monster doily". I don't like pink much and never really have, even when I was a little girl I loved red but not pink. So why have I used that colour for this one, you might ask.
First of all I knew it didn't have to be either white or blue, it had to be something else. And I am trying to use some of those threads that have not really worked for me before, like the 5-6 large balls of Cebelia size 30 that a friend bought for me on a sale in Germany some years back.

I don't like this thread I have used for yet another square, not just the colour but also because it breaks easily when I am closing the rings. It is not only a question of my tension which I know is tight, I also think the thread tangles or twists a bit or something when you make the rings and then they sort of lock when you are closing them. And if you really have to pull them to close them properly the thread will break now and then.
So often there's a sort of a gap when the rings have been closed and when I started the chains I had to make sure the first stitches were very tight. It might not be visible but I know it is like that and that is way too much. So I have better find a non-tatter to give this too, so noone will be able to see those things, roflol.
Yes Maureen, I do know you like pink, I am glad someone does then my struggle with this have not been done in vain.

Jeg har aldrig rigtig brudt mig om farven pink, alligevel har jeg brugt den her fordi det ikke altsammen skal være enten hvidt eller blåt. Og på en eller anden måde skal jeg jo have brugt de 6 store nøgler Cebelia #30 som en veninde en gang købte til mig i Tyskland. Men det har været svært at undgå nogle små mellemrum ved ringenes basis, fordi det er svært at trække ringene ordentligt sammen med denne tråd uden at den knækker. Det er ikke kun fordi jeg orkerer meget fast, det er også fordi tråden ligesom snurrer om sig selv og dermed låser. Godt det er overstået, for det var så hårdt for mit venstre håndled også.

The last doily in May

Yes I know, a stupid title for this. But on the other had it is true, it will be the last doily I will tat in May, roflol.
It comes right from the shuttle so sorry if the picture is not a good one, it was taken in a hurry.
Somehow I am actually a little bit proud of myself, because it is done in Cebelia size 30 and DMC 30 (the white one), and that cebelia thread used to break a lot for me once, and therefore I was thinking maybe the thread was old or my tension was way too tight (both might be possible too). I am trying very hard not to tat too tight so I can use the thinner threads - I was able to do it a little once upon a time so it should be possible to get back to it. Problem is to get it look as tight and neat as it does when I tat in size 20.
Oh the pattern is from Anne's website in Norway, thank you for sharing the pattern.

Ice cream tatting

I have had a request to show my ice cream cone here even though it is a couple of years since I did it, so here it is. I believe it was some sort of challenge for the hardcore ICT-tatters, lol. I think one or two have melted since then so not sure we all have a picture to show, roflol.

Mine is vanilla with sprinkles. It was a bit fiddly to tat but it looks good. Pattern is designed by Nancy from Be-Stitched.com . Icecream is always nice and very nice on a hot day so you can cool down for a little while.

Jenni, do you remember Ballarat???

If you should happen to go there then do remember that ice cream is not available there on a Monday, we found out that their icecream shop is closed on that day, lol. We circled around the same streets a couple of times, roflol, and finally asked one of the locals and then we saw it was closed on Mondays. Such a big place and only one icecream shop. Unbelievable, lol.

Tatting doilies

This is another doily that was finished a month ago but I did not have time to hide ends and scan it till last night. It is called "Gypsophile" and can be found in "La Frivolite fine et precieuse".It is another blue and white one - wonder when that phase will end, lol This was also a good one to tat, as I recall it today, even though I also had to use the iron to make it lie absolutely flat.
I have been asked how I am able to tat so many doilies. Well most nights when I watch TV then I also tat, so I do not feel that it takes a lot of time to do them. I have to admit that I like tatted doilies a lot, I call myself a doily-holic.
Maybe it is because they were the first things I saw in tatting when I grew up and my aunt tatted me 2 smaller doilies before I turned 15. Doilies and edgings is all that I recall she tatted. I still have to tat my first edging though.

Her er endnu en hvid og blå flakon som jeg lavede i sidste måned. Jeg skal altså snart slå over i en anden farve end blå. Mønsteret er fra en fransk orkisbog.
At orkere flakoner er et godt tidsfordriv når jeg ser TV, og jeg må indrømme, at jeg godt kan lide at lave dem. Måske fordi flakoner og blonder var hvad min moster orkerede da jeg voksede op, men jeg har stadig min første blonde til gode.

Snowflake in May

It is the most incredible and beautiful spring around here with temperatures around and above 20 C, and yet I have been tatting a snowflake, lol.

I was inspired after having seen Tattingchic's picture at Etatters and I just had to do it because I liked it so much. The pattern is a Tina Frauberger design and perhaps I chose the wrong colour for it, it is a Flora size 20.

I had on my mind that sometimes snow can be so white that it's got a vague blue shine, but of course this thread also have a pink one and I have not seen that in real life. Well I am most certain that this will not be the last time I tat it, it was such a big pleasure to do it.

And anyhow it is a beautiful snowflake. Even in May.

Det er nok fjollet at orkere dette design når det er maj måned og det flotteste forårsvejr man næsten kan tænke sig, hvor temperaturen er omkring eller over 20 grader og solen skinner fra en skyfri himmel. Men jeg måtte prøve denne, selvom den egentlig hører julen til. Men måske valgte jeg den forkerte farve tråd, for nok kan sne have et blåt skær over sig, men jeg har godt nok aldrig set den pinke farve. Næste gang vælger jeg en bedre farve, for der bliver en næste gang.

I am irresolute - not anymore

I am so irresolute. For more than a week I have not worked on this doily below. I can not make up my mind if I am going to finish this round or cut it off and say it is done. Why - because I can see that the clovers on the last round are overlapping and I think they are overlapping too much for the ironing being able to solve the problem. It worked fine untill this round of clovers and it is definitely not because my joining picots are too big, the crochet hook should be able to be put through them after all.It is such a loveley doily and I would like to see it finished but I do not want to waste my good threads if it does not work.

As you can see above I am not irresolute anymore because last night I cut off what I had tatted on the last round. It is a smaller doily now but still a beautiful one and if it does not fit the purpose I had in mind then I will use it for something else. I did try to iron it first but it didn't work for me, so this is the best solution for me. And Linda can still be proud of her design, because I really like it this way.

Pokkers også at denne sidste omgang betyder, at jeg ikke kan få denne flakon til at ligge ordentligt fladt på underlaget og jeg er usikker på om brug af strygejernet gør en forskel. Den er så pæn og jeg ville så gerne se den lavet færdig, men på den anden side vil jeg heller ikke spilde mit gode garn på den, hvis det nu ikke virker. Så derfor har den ligget stille i mere end en uge. Men hvad så hvis jeg klipper den sidste omgang af, vil jeg så fortryde det også.
Åh, hvor vægelsindet har man dog lov at være. :-(
Jeg besluttede mig for at klippe det på sidste omgang af, og jeg synes stadig det er en fin flakon, den er bare mindre end jeg havde forestillet mig.

Right from the shuttle

This was finished tonight, so it comes right from the shuttle. It is from Tatted Fashion by Teiko Fujito.

I felt there were a million little motifs to be joined on the last two rounds, so much to keep track of so it didn't get twisted and to join them in the right picots. Also at least a million ends to deal with, darn.

Wonder why is so much of my tatting is blue for the time being!!!!!

I am working on something else but I do not know how it will turn out in the end unfortunately so I am wondering what to do with it right now. My arm is a little sore tonight too, so maybe I should stay away from the shuttles for a night or two, if am able to.

Denne var en udfordring for mig på grund af alle de små motiver der var at holde styr på og at få dem fæstet de rigtige steder. This is a doily called "The Arches" designed by Marilee Rockley and the pattern can be found on her website. I started this in May-June 2007 but have not been able to finish it till 2008. A very nice doily to tat in deed.
Below is a doily from a French tattting book. It looks OK but it was so hard to get it to lie flat, it really did need a lot of ironing. Reminds me of the doilies my aunt did a lot.

Den øverste startede jeg sidste år men har først kunnet færdiggøre den nu. Den var rar at lave og mønsteret kan findes på internettet.

Den nederste var meget svær at få til at ligge fladt, jeg var nød til at bruge strygejernet intenst. En skam for det er en klassisk type flakon, minder mig om dem min moster lavede mange af og som altid lå fladt på bordet.

Tatting in March 2

Soon it wont be March any longer so I have better post the last of my work from this month.
First an Easter egg designed by Inge-Lise who is an almost local tatter that allowed me to test tat this.
A very nice egg to tat and the reciever liked it so thanks to Inge-Lise who I will probably soon meet in real life too - yahoo.
Below are 2 smaller doilies, I believe they are both Italian, from those mags called Il Lavoro......... Nice little stuff to tat.
Next pictures that will be added here will be bigger things - but that will be next month, lol.

My largest doily so far - I think so

I finished this big green one last night - just in time for spring, lol. It is funny to recall, that I started it in Maureen's house in September 2006, tatted on it on Jenni's deck in October 2006 and have just finished it at home. So it has taken me a long time to finish it - have done other stuff in the meantime and also had long tatting breaks. The diameter is 32 cm (around 12 inches) and it is one of the biggest I have ever done. The thread is Coats size 20 and the design belongs to Mary Maynard.

Tatting in March 1

It is not that I have not been tatting in March at all, but I have spent some time though looking through my new tatting books that I have bought this month.
So maybe I do not have a lot of words to write here but I can show pictures. So here is a picture of 2 motifs I have done. The one to the left is designed by Jan Stawasz and can be found in his book. The other one I think is from the new Italian magazine - Il Lavoro no 10.

Tatting again

I have not forgotten this place or given it up. As a part of my recovery I have tried getting back to tatting and have done some of those bookmarks that I like to do. So here is a picture of them.

They are probably not 100 % perfect but they are OK - and they mean I again have a little stock of bookmarks to give away when I feel like it.
Isn't it funny to look at the 3 different versions of the red bookmark and see how differently they look - the choise of colours and the combination seems to be very significant it seems.

Good news

Green is said to be the colour of hope so I will use that colour today. Surgery is over now and even though the arm is not that good right now I am being an optimist because the doctor said he thought that I will have a fine arm again and therefore I think I can get back to tatting and do well again someday - yahoo.
Now I just have to be patient and it will all be good and I can tat a nice doily again someday soon. I have had days where I thought that tatting would not be so good for me anymore but that have changed now. How would I be able to survive without it.
Those closest to me have not been a lot of help really, therefore it has been such a pleasure to me that my close tatting friends have been (and still are) there for me, thank you very much Maureen and Ginny. A special thank you and hug to Jenni who almost have been holding my left hand long distance, I will never forget your kindness towards me, mate.
And there are friends locally too that have been there for me - tusind tak til mine venner for at I har været der for mig.

WIP1 finished

It's been a while since I posted here but now it is a new year and wow isn't it exciting to think of all the new tatting projects that awaits us in the new year.
So I decided it was time to get some of my WIP done before I have the surgery and will not be able to tat for some time I guess. So here is a picture of the little red doily.

It is not perfect and definitely not ready for a close inspection but it is the best I can do just now. Hopefully later my tatting will get back to my usual quality. But I have better work on some of those WIP that I have, so there might be some new pictures soon.

New Square

I am working on a new square. It is a pattern from a German site, originally a runner but I am only testing it so I am doing a small square doily. I am doing it in red, I wonder if it is because of Christmas that I am tatting so much in red.

I am a tatter

I have shown a lot of knitting here and the knitting have done my arm so much good so I will continue to do that. But first of all I am a tatter, tatting is the love of my craft world.

Andreas got his scarf in the mail today and much to my surprise his mother told me when she phoned me, that she wanted to use it for him. I am so happy I have been able to do something for him that he will actually use. I hope the same thing will happen to the blue sweater that I will knit for him - he will come for a visit here on the 15th but I can not manage to get it done till then. I was told that he's got 2 teeth now, lol.

I have not had time to tat today so my work in progress is very much still in progress. But I have finally got that ribbon that I needed for the red heart that I tatted a while ago, so here is a picture of the finished heart. It will soon go into the mail and travel down to my Christmas exchange partner.

Det ender jo snart med, at jeg får helt travlt når Andreas og hans forældre kommer og skal spise aftensmad her næste lørdag, men hvor er det rart, at de gider komme så jeg ser frem til det. Han er nu 9 måneder og jeg tror han har alderen til et større tøjdyr, jeg tror jeg skal ud at se på en tøjhund til ham. Hans mor vil sikkert ryste på hovedet af mig, men han bliver nok glad, :-).

Tatting WIP1

I am tatting a little bit right now so I have better put a picture here of my work in progress.

Not a lot to say about it, it is a small doily from my last guild magazine.

I will add more when I have tatted some more.

The pattern is a bit tricky so it is going a bit slowly.

Jenni got her socks last week and she is enjoying them. Oh I am so happy she likes them even though it is summer down there.

Scarf for Andreas

I am still awaiting the yarn so I can finish my purple sweater.

In the meantime I have tatted a little bit but it does not look that good. It is not the tension that is my problem after the long break but it is not as even as I would like it to be. I don't know if it is caused by the arm or what.

At nights I have also knitted a little bit again, this time a scarf for a little boy. His name is Andreas and the pictures of him were taken two months ago when he was 7 months old. His mother is my youngest niece.

I will probably not have a lot to do with him at all but he is a cute little boy and I thought he would need a scarf to keep him warm. I just hope his mother thinks so too but no matter what I had fun knitting it. And the yarn is so soft and suited for a baby, some leftovers from a sweater years ago.

My purple sweater

Earlier I have shown or mentioned the yarn that I bought for a sweater. I have forgotten to post a picture of the sweater here so I have better do it now because in a little while it will be done.
In this picture it looks like the sweater is blue but it really isn't because it is so definitely purple. Not sure why but sometimes the pictures taken by my digital camera do not show a colour the way it really is.
All that is missing now is putting the arms on and to knit the neck part, and after that is done I will have a nice warm sweater.

A tatted heart

I promised to add the picture of the tatted heart here when it was ready for presentation, so here it is ..... yahoo, lol.
The original had a sort of golden band through the outer round but I do not really have that in my stash right now, so it will have to wait till later.
It is tatted in red Aida size 20 and I got the pattern from my latest Guild magazine and it is designed by Grethe Skov. The Danish Tatting Guild - Dansk Orkisforening - is more than 10 years old and it covers all of DK and have more than 500 members. I get my magazine three times a year and there are some patterns in everyone of them.

I have been quite busy knitting mostly, I have started a sweater of that lovely purple yarn (picture to come later) and then I have finished a pair of socks for a very dear friend of mine.

It is the first pair I have knitted with this yarn and I do hope, that they will fit her feet even though the foot does not look to be very wide. But I can put my foot in one of them. I hope she will like the yarn and enjoy her first pair of knitted socks. I will try to get them in the mail this week.

It looks like the knitting have done my arm some good so I can perhaps return to tatting a little bit also. Actually I have tatted a heart pattern from my Guild magazine, it needs ironing before I can show it here but if I get that done today then I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

Cowl finished

OK, I am ready for winter now because I have finished knitting my cowl.

I am not able to take a picture of myself wearing it so Teddy Blue will have to be my stand in.

I won him years ago and my nieces enjoyed him when they were children - that is why he looks a bit messy, but I do not have the heart to throw him out.

This yarn was very nice to knit with and with a size 8 circular needle it does not take long to finish something. I will definitely use this yarn again some other time - I hope.

The cowl

It's been quite some days so I have better post a message here. I have been working on the cowland it is very quick when you use knitting needles size 8 and some thick yarn. But it is sooooo soft.
I can not make up my mind if it is long enough or not. It will be at least a month I think before we get snow so I still have time decide it, lol. If we will have any snow at all of course.
I have also worked on my sock and actually finished the first one. I forgot to take a picture though, so that will have to wait till next time.

More knitting

Yes I know that this place was supposed to be mostly about tatting, I hope to return to it very soon but just now I can not tat really. I am trying to see if I may be more able to knit and therefore I have bought more yarn today.

The blue at the right is for another pair of socks that I will knit for a dear friend of mine. The white to the left is for myself, for a cowl that I hope can keep my head and my ears warm during the coming winter. I am not good at wearing hoods or hats but I hope this will be good.

I have 3 very dear fourlegged friends, unfortunately they are all down under so I do not see them a lot, actually I have only seen them once, lol.
First there's Bindii, a red healer. Oh she is so kind and so incredible soft - look, she's smiling in the picture. She was my breakfast buddy on the bench out in the sun - she was very good to talk with - maybe because I had müsli in my bowl and she got a taste, lol. No matter what we had some very, very good mornings there and I am a huge fan of Bindii but she is definitely Jenni's dog. The little black and white one is Terra. I think it is one of the funniest dogs I have ever met. She is truely her masters dog, follow every step Jamie takes. I can not remember what breed she is. She is lying a lot on the couch where she's got her own bed and she is sometimes called Guidi, lol.This little girl below was born in August 2006 and she is so special to me because she is the closest I have been to having a dog. She is a kelpie and she is called Alli. The left picture was taken the day in October we picked her up and because I had the money in my pocket I paid for her and she was mine for 30 minutes or so, I even sat with her in my lap in the car some of the way home. She was shivering a lot because she didn't know what was going to happen to her but I know that she's got one of the best homes a dog can have. But she could not know that when we took her away from her mother and brothers.

Today she is such a fine and big girl. She's got some other fourlegged mates there and she's also got a human Aunt up in the North and I hope to see her again someday.

Dan-Aus exchange

OK, here is some tatting. I have been taking part in a friendship exchange between members of the Danish Tatting Association and the Victoria Tatting Guild in Australia. This is an angel that I got from Marie in Melbourne. The design is from one of those 2 Guild magazines that I left there last year when I attended the Victoria Tatting Guilds meeting in October.
I did bookmarks for both my partners - the Japanese edging I like so much. Marie got a variegated yellow and Susan a variegated purple. No pics, sorry.
These 3 Christmas trees Susan did for me. The tree in the center I believe she designed together with another Aussie tatter and the 2 little ones are her own designs.

I do feel so lucky with the gifts from my partners, thanks to both of you.

A knitted sock

I know this should mostly be about tatting but I am not able to tat that much right now so I have been trying to knit a sock - something I have done quite a bit earlier on.
My intention was to knit a sock with one of those yarns that forms geometrical patterns - hhhmmm!!! I can see now that I must have picked the wrong yarn because this is not excactly the pattern that I had on my mind.

This is my first message here therefore I will most likely be messing around all those new features I have to get used to.
I will not write here on a daily basis but only when I feel like it or when I have something to show or tell.
